ECU Credit Union was formed in 1973 by the employees of the Cairns Regional Electricity Board. From 1976 to 1997 the credit union experienced several major developments to its membership, the most important being the amendment of the Constitution of ECU Australia in 1997 which enabled all persons who use electricity to become a member of ECU Australia.
