Benchmark investment information - how performance is measured

To ensure comparability for consumers, the RateCity superannuation comparison is based on the asset allocation of each of the MySuper/Pension products, irrespective of the name of the investment option. This methodology allows consumers to compare products on a like for like basis and removes any ambiguities associated with the name of the investment option. For example, an investment option may be classified as growth, however its asset allocation may in fact mean it should be classified as high growth. By using the asset allocation as the dominant identifier, we believe this provides the most robust framework for consumers to compare funds and recognise that this is a consistent approach to that of SuperRatings methodology.

What the researchers say

Aon Master Trust Pension - Essentials came into effect 1 July 2012 and consists of a retirement pension and a transition to retirement pension. A minimum initial investment of $20,000 is required to commence membership.

Members are offered a broad selection of over 25 Pre-Mixed and Single Sector investment options. While limited performance history is available for this product, the Balanced Growth - Index option has historically provided strong returns compared with the SuperRatings Index.

Fees are competitive across all account balances and a portfolio rebate applies for balances over $250,000. No transaction fee is charged for switching between investments; however, additional fees do apply for withdrawals.

Aon Master Trust Pension - Essentials offers reasonable flexibility, with 4 different payment frequencies to choose from, as well as a choice of binding and non-binding death benefit nomination and reversionary beneficiary nomination.

The fund offers access to online calculators, scaled advice and full financial planning. Additionally, the WeCare program offers members and their families benefits such as legal advice, home assistance, funeral assistance, counselling and grief services.
