Annualised figures are the average per year returns of the rated option based on the cumulative returns for the past 5 years to 30/06/2015, past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance. Performance and fee data is based on the option which is rated by SuperRatings and stated on each product's landing page.

Benchmark investment information - how performance is measured

To ensure comparability for consumers, the RateCity superannuation comparison is based on the asset allocation of each of the MySuper/Pension products, irrespective of the name of the investment option. This methodology allows consumers to compare products on a like for like basis and removes any ambiguities associated with the name of the investment option. For example, an investment option may be classified as growth, however its asset allocation may in fact mean it should be classified as high growth. By using the asset allocation as the dominant identifier, we believe this provides the most robust framework for consumers to compare funds and recognise that this is a consistent approach to that of SuperRatings methodology.

What the researchers say

Asgard eWRAP was established in 2003 by Asgard Wealth Management (a subsidiary of the Westpac Group) and is designed for members who want more flexibility and choice in their pension, without the hassle of setting up a SMSF. A minimum account balance of $100,000 is recommended.

Through Asgard eWRAP members can access an extensive investment menu of 11 core investment options, over 300 single manager options, cash, direct equities and term deposits. Performance of the representative Advance Balanced Multi-Blend option has underperformed the SuperRatings Index in the short term. However, the extensive investment menu means return vary depending on the option and manager selected.

Fees are high for smaller account balances when compared to the industry average due to a minimum administration fee, however members are recommended to have account balances of over $100,000. Buy/sell spreads are also part of the fee structure.

The Asgard eWRAP Allocated Pension provides good pension flexibility. A selection of 3 pension payment frequencies is available with payments made directly to the member's nominated bank account on a date specified by the fund. Members can nominate a drawdown strategy or have their pension payments drawn proportionately from their account.

A financial adviser is required to invest in Asgard eWRAP. Extensive calculators, educational material and reporting facilities are provided through the investor online facility and the fund's website.
