  • Negative returns

Annualised figures are the average per year returns of the rated option based on the cumulative returns for the past 5 years to 30/06/2016, past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance. Performance and fee data is based on the option which is rated by SuperRatings and stated on each product's landing page.

Benchmark investment information - how performance is measured

To ensure comparability for consumers, the RateCity superannuation comparison is based on the asset allocation of each of the MySuper/Pension products, irrespective of the name of the investment option. This methodology allows consumers to compare products on a like for like basis and removes any ambiguities associated with the name of the investment option. For example, an investment option may be classified as growth, however its asset allocation may in fact mean it should be classified as high growth. By using the asset allocation as the dominant identifier, we believe this provides the most robust framework for consumers to compare funds and recognise that this is a consistent approach to that of SuperRatings methodology.

High Growth 91-100%
Growth 77-90%
Balanced 60-76%
Conservative Balanced 41-59%
Capital Stable 20-40%

What the researchers say

Originally established to serve members in the meat industry, AMIST (Australian Meat Industry Superannuation Trust) Super is today a public offer industry fund with all profits generated by the fund distributed back to members. The Pension product was introduced in 2005.

The AMIST Pension investment menu consists of five Diversified and Single-Sector investment options suitable for members with different risk profiles. The Balanced option has exhibited long-term performance in excess of the SuperRatings Index.

Fees for the Balanced option are well below the industry average across all assessed account balances. No Switching fee is charged for changing investment options and the Asset Administration fee is capped at 0.1% p.a. However, Exit fees are applicable.

AMIST Pension offers a reasonable level of product flexibility. Members can choose from a variety of payment frequencies ranging from fortnightly to annually. Members can also nominate a fixed percentage draw-down order for pension payments or pro-rata across investments. A minimum initial investment of $20,000 is required to commence an allocated pension, or a Transition to Retirement Pension product for pre-retirees.

AMIST pension members benefit from discounted home loans, credit cards, savings accounts and health insurance. Members also have access to financial planning services via Link Advice, and can request rollovers through the online MemberAccess portal.
