Annualised figures are the average per year returns of the rated option based on the cumulative returns for the past 5 years to 30/06/2015, past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance. Performance and fee data is based on the option which is rated by SuperRatings and stated on each product's landing page.

Benchmark investment information - how performance is measured

To ensure comparability for consumers, the RateCity superannuation comparison is based on the asset allocation of each of the MySuper/Pension products, irrespective of the name of the investment option. This methodology allows consumers to compare products on a like for like basis and removes any ambiguities associated with the name of the investment option. For example, an investment option may be classified as growth, however its asset allocation may in fact mean it should be classified as high growth. By using the asset allocation as the dominant identifier, we believe this provides the most robust framework for consumers to compare funds and recognise that this is a consistent approach to that of SuperRatings methodology.

What the researchers say

Established in 1978, LUCRF Super was Australia's first industry super fund. The LUCRF Allocated Pension was established in 2007 and a minimum initial investment of $10,000 is required to join this product. The Fund is Infinity Recognised due to its strong and genuine commitment to environmental and social principles.

The default Balanced option has underperformed the SuperRatings Index over the shorter term, but has generally performed well against industry peers. Members have a menu of 10 options to choose from, consisting of 5 Diversified and 5 Single Sector options. This includes a Targeted Return option that was launched as a response to changing market conditions, and which aims to reduce volatility of returns and preserve capital.

LUCRF Super's Allocated Pension offers a highly competitive and simple fee structure across all account balances assessed. No transaction fees apply and investment switches can be made at any time at no additional cost.

Pension flexibility is good, with the fund offering suitable choices in terms of pension payment frequency and the ability to nominate a drawdown order for pension payments. The fund also enables members to recommence their Transition to Retirement Pension.

LUCRF Super offers access to Free Consolidation and Lost Super Search services, as well as a range of other benefits including regular member education programs.

The LUCRF Community Partnership Trust continues to be actively involved in community projects that reflect the core values of LUCRF, their employers and members.
