Annualised figures are the average per year returns of the rated option based on the cumulative returns for the past 5 years to 30/06/2015, past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance. Performance and fee data is based on the option which is rated by SuperRatings and stated on each product's landing page.

Benchmark investment information - how performance is measured

To ensure comparability for consumers, the RateCity superannuation comparison is based on the asset allocation of each of the MySuper/Pension products, irrespective of the name of the investment option. This methodology allows consumers to compare products on a like for like basis and removes any ambiguities associated with the name of the investment option. For example, an investment option may be classified as growth, however its asset allocation may in fact mean it should be classified as high growth. By using the asset allocation as the dominant identifier, we believe this provides the most robust framework for consumers to compare funds and recognise that this is a consistent approach to that of SuperRatings methodology.

High Growth 91-100%
Growth 77-90%
Balanced 60-76%
Conservative Balanced 41-59%
Capital Stable 20-40%

What the researchers say

MAP is a superannuation fund that was originally set up to cater for people working in the medical profession however, since becoming public offer in 1992 it caters for a variety of employees. In February 2014, MAP joined the OneVue group. OneVue was a finalist of the 2016 Rising Star Award, in recognition of its consistent improvements to its product offerings which have significantly enhanced value for its members.

Members have access to eight Diversified and Single-Sector investment options. The Balanced option has under-performed the SuperRatings Index over all time periods assessed.

Fees for this product are higher than the industry average across all account balances assessed. The administration fee reduces as the account size grows, and is capped on balances over $1.5 million. Transaction fees apply for withdrawals and switches (0.4% per subsequent switch after 4 free switches each year).

Members are provided with a reasonable level of flexibility, including a choice of 4 pension payment frequencies ranging from monthly to annually. Members can elect to draw-down their pension on a fixed-percentage basis, or pro-rata across investments. A minimum initial investment of $20,000 is required to commence a MAP Pension, and a Transition to Retirement Pension is also available.

MAP Super provides online features including topical information and regular newsletters. Members may also obtain comprehensive financial advice via the fund.
