Annualised figures are the average per year returns of the rated option based on the cumulative returns for the past 5 years to 30/06/2015, past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance. Performance and fee data is based on the option which is rated by SuperRatings and stated on each product's landing page.

Benchmark investment information - how performance is measured

To ensure comparability for consumers, the RateCity superannuation comparison is based on the asset allocation of each of the MySuper/Pension products, irrespective of the name of the investment option. This methodology allows consumers to compare products on a like for like basis and removes any ambiguities associated with the name of the investment option. For example, an investment option may be classified as growth, however its asset allocation may in fact mean it should be classified as high growth. By using the asset allocation as the dominant identifier, we believe this provides the most robust framework for consumers to compare funds and recognise that this is a consistent approach to that of SuperRatings methodology.

What the researchers say

netwealth Super Wrap was established in 2002 and is designed for investors who want more choice and flexibility in their pension account. From 1 July 2014, netwealth will not accept new members in the Super Wrap Income Stream Service.

An extensive investment menu is offered to members, comprising 11 core options, access to over 277 single manager options across a variety of asset classes and risk profiles, direct equities and term deposits. Performance of the Active Growth option has been mixed, and it should be noted that all earnings are reported prior to the deduction of tax.

The fee structure of netwealth is quite complex and fees lie above the industry average across all balances assessed. Fee tiering also applies to account balances over $100,000. No fees are charged for establishing an account, switching investments or regular pension payments, however a fee does apply for all lump-sum withdrawals.

The netwealth Standard Income Stream provides flexible pension features. Members are able to select from 4 pension payment frequencies with payments made directly to the member's bank account or by cheque. Members are required to nominate a draw-down strategy for their pension payments and can automatically increase their payments annually by a nominated percentage.

Members can also access extensive performance reporting online, as well as educational resources, including ASX Live Data.
