Annualised figures are the average per year returns of the rated option based on the cumulative returns for the past 5 years to 30/06/2015, past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance. Performance and fee data is based on the option which is rated by SuperRatings and stated on each product's landing page.

Benchmark investment information - how performance is measured

To ensure comparability for consumers, the RateCity superannuation comparison is based on the asset allocation of each of the MySuper/Pension products, irrespective of the name of the investment option. This methodology allows consumers to compare products on a like for like basis and removes any ambiguities associated with the name of the investment option. For example, an investment option may be classified as growth, however its asset allocation may in fact mean it should be classified as high growth. By using the asset allocation as the dominant identifier, we believe this provides the most robust framework for consumers to compare funds and recognise that this is a consistent approach to that of SuperRatings methodology.

What the researchers say

OnePath's OneAnswer Frontier Pension is a comprehensive low cost Retail Master Trust product. This is highlighted by securing of the SuperRatings Platinum rating for 2016.

An advantage of OneAnswer Frontier is member access to the flexibility and choice offered by a retail fund in an up-front commission free environment.

Members have access to a full investment menu of over 80 options incorporating short and long period Term Deposits and the OptiMix range of investments. The performance of the Vanguard Growth Index option has outperformed the SuperRatings Index in 2015, although long term performance figures are not available as the product was established in late 2010.

The fee structure is competitive across all account balances assessed. Rebates also apply for members with balances over $300,000, while the fixed dollar fee of $115 p.a. is waived once the member's account balance reaches $50,000.

Pension flexibility is excellent, offering 4 payment frequencies, excellent death benefit options for beneficiaries, 'seamless transfer' facility between accounts and at call access to pension funds. The product also offers a variety of ancillary benefits to members.
