Benchmark investment information - how performance is measured

To ensure comparability for consumers, the RateCity superannuation comparison is based on the asset allocation of each of the MySuper/Pension products, irrespective of the name of the investment option. This methodology allows consumers to compare products on a like for like basis and removes any ambiguities associated with the name of the investment option. For example, an investment option may be classified as growth, however its asset allocation may in fact mean it should be classified as high growth. By using the asset allocation as the dominant identifier, we believe this provides the most robust framework for consumers to compare funds and recognise that this is a consistent approach to that of SuperRatings methodology.

What the researchers say

QANTAS Super is a corporate fund that was established in 1939 to provide superannuation benefits to employees of QANTAS Airways and its subsidiary companies.

On 1 October 2015, QANTAS Super launched the QANTAS Super Gateway Income Account, with which previous Division 9 and Division 14 products have now been merged. Members are required to have a minimum initial investment of $30,000 to be eligible for Gateway Income Account.

Members have access to 6 investment options comprising 4 Diversified options, a Cash option and the new Glidepath lifecycle option.

Fees for QANTAS Gateway Income Account are competitive and lower than the industry average across all account balances assessed. An Administration fee cap of $1,200 pa applies and no fees are charged for partial withdrawals, investment switching or regular pension payments. An exit fee of $114.50 per withdrawal applies.

QANTAS Gateway Income Account provides good pension flexibility. Members are offered fortnightly, monthly, quarterly, half yearly and annually pension payment frequencies. The option to elect for pension payments to be increased in line with Consumer Price Index (CPI) is also available. Proportionate drawdown has been set as the default method for regular income payments, while members can also specify priority drawdown order from investments.
