Benchmark investment information - how performance is measured

To ensure comparability for consumers, the RateCity superannuation comparison is based on the asset allocation of each of the MySuper/Pension products, irrespective of the name of the investment option. This methodology allows consumers to compare products on a like for like basis and removes any ambiguities associated with the name of the investment option. For example, an investment option may be classified as growth, however its asset allocation may in fact mean it should be classified as high growth. By using the asset allocation as the dominant identifier, we believe this provides the most robust framework for consumers to compare funds and recognise that this is a consistent approach to that of SuperRatings methodology.

What the researchers say

Telstra Super is today one of Australia's largest corporate super funds. A 2016 Pension of the Year Finalist, Telstra Super's retirement division RetireAccess opened in 1999.

Telstra Super RetireAccess offers a choice of 5 Diversified and 5 Single Sector asset class options, with investment choice in all major asset classes. Investment performance has been excellent across the board, with the fund's Balanced option outperforming the SuperRatings Index over the last 5 years.

Telstra Super RetireAccess members are offered a competitive fee structure, with a member fee of $1.50 per week and a flat administration fee of 0.22% p.a. There are no switching, entry or exit fees, although member initiated transactions are covered by a buy/sell spread.

Members automatically receive 1 unit of Death cover upon joining, with the option of applying for unlimited additional top up cover. Members can now also apply to have their externally held Death cover transferred and matched by Telstra Super's group cover rates.

Pension flexibility is average, with members able to choose between fortnightly, monthly, quarterly or annual pension payments. Drawdown instructions can also be nominated by the member, or pro-rated across their investments.
