Benchmark investment information - how performance is measured

To ensure comparability for consumers, the RateCity superannuation comparison is based on the asset allocation of each of the MySuper/Pension products, irrespective of the name of the investment option. This methodology allows consumers to compare products on a like for like basis and removes any ambiguities associated with the name of the investment option. For example, an investment option may be classified as growth, however its asset allocation may in fact mean it should be classified as high growth. By using the asset allocation as the dominant identifier, we believe this provides the most robust framework for consumers to compare funds and recognise that this is a consistent approach to that of SuperRatings methodology.

What the researchers say

AMP Flexible Lifetime Super was established in 1996 as a personal super product for individuals and small employers. This product closed to new members on 1 July 2010. AMP Flexible Lifetime Super received an Infinity Recognition Award in 2015 for the seventh consecutive year, in recognition of excellence in environmental and social principals.

Members have access to over 80 Diversified, Single-Sector and Single Manager options. Access to Term Deposits is also provided. The AMP Balanced Growth option has under-performed the SuperRatings Index over the long-term.

Fees associated with this product are higher than average on all account balances assessed. Rebates are available for members with account balances over $100,000, resulting in fee reductions up to 0.85% p.a. for account balances greater than $1 million.

AMP Flexible Lifetime Super provides members with access to Death only, Death & TPD and Income Protection (IP) insurance. Members can apply for an unlimited amount of Death only cover, and up to $5 million of Death & TPD cover. IP is available over a maximum benefit period of 2 years or up to age 65, with a variety of waiting periods.

AMP's new look website contains a variety of financial simulators and retirement calculators. Members can also manage their superannuation on desktops, tablets and their mobile phones via MyPortfolio.
