Annualised figures are the average per year returns of the rated option based on the cumulative returns for the past 5 years to 30/06/2016, past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance. Performance and fee data is based on the option which is rated by SuperRatings and stated on each product's landing page.
Benchmark investment information - how performance is measured
To ensure comparability for consumers, the RateCity superannuation comparison is based on the asset allocation of each of the MySuper/Pension products, irrespective of the name of the investment option. This methodology allows consumers to compare products on a like for like basis and removes any ambiguities associated with the name of the investment option. For example, an investment option may be classified as growth, however its asset allocation may in fact mean it should be classified as high growth. By using the asset allocation as the dominant identifier, we believe this provides the most robust framework for consumers to compare funds and recognise that this is a consistent approach to that of SuperRatings methodology.

What the researchers say
BT Super for Life is a MySuper authorised, low cost product that was established in October 2007. Designed with ease of access in mind, BT Super for Life offers members the ability to view their super account through Online Banking. The fund continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental and social principles and is Infinity recognised.
Members are by default placed in one of 7 actively-managed 'Lifestage' investment options based on the decade the member was born, with growth assets automatically declining with age. Performance of the 1960's Lifestage option has underperformed the SuperRatings Index over the short and long term.
The fee structure of BT Super for Life is straightforward. Fees are competitive particularly on small account balances. No fees are charged for establishing or exiting an account or investment switches.
BT Super for Life provides members with access to a full suite of insurance at competitive premiums. Basic Death and TPD cover is available to all members, with automatic cover provided dependent on the member's age. Additional insurance is available under the customised insurance offering. Income Protection (IP) insurance covers up to 75% of salary, with a choice of 4 waiting periods and 3 benefit periods. Premiums for IP cover are not shown, as they are individually assessed.
Financial planning services are available and members can carry out all account-related transactions online.
