Benchmark investment information - how performance is measured

To ensure comparability for consumers, the RateCity superannuation comparison is based on the asset allocation of each of the MySuper/Pension products, irrespective of the name of the investment option. This methodology allows consumers to compare products on a like for like basis and removes any ambiguities associated with the name of the investment option. For example, an investment option may be classified as growth, however its asset allocation may in fact mean it should be classified as high growth. By using the asset allocation as the dominant identifier, we believe this provides the most robust framework for consumers to compare funds and recognise that this is a consistent approach to that of SuperRatings methodology.

What the researchers say

Equip was founded in 1931 as the Provident Fund of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria, with membership now open to the general public. The fund has achieved a Platinum rating for the past 12 consecutive years.

Equip MyFuture offers a choice of 12 investment options, consisting of 6 Diversified and 6 Single Sector options. The Balanced Growth option has outperformed the SuperRatings Index over the medium and long term.

Fees are lower than the industry average across all account balances assessed, and to assist members with higher account balances, the administration fee has been capped for account balances over $450,000. No fees are charged for switching investments; however, an exit fee applies to partial and full withdrawals.

Equip MyFuture provides members with access to a full suite of insurance cover, with eligible members receiving automatic Death and TPD Cover upon joining the fund. Income Protection (IP) is available with 85% salary coverage over 2 years with a choice of 30, 60 and 90 day waiting periods.

Equip offers an online automated investment service, Equip MyMoney to all accumulation members, assisting members in making the right investment choice from the fund's investment menu based on their risk profile.
