Benchmark investment information - how performance is measured

To ensure comparability for consumers, the RateCity superannuation comparison is based on the asset allocation of each of the MySuper/Pension products, irrespective of the name of the investment option. This methodology allows consumers to compare products on a like for like basis and removes any ambiguities associated with the name of the investment option. For example, an investment option may be classified as growth, however its asset allocation may in fact mean it should be classified as high growth. By using the asset allocation as the dominant identifier, we believe this provides the most robust framework for consumers to compare funds and recognise that this is a consistent approach to that of SuperRatings methodology.

What the researchers say

HOSTPLUS was established for the hospitality, tourism and leisure industries, with membership also open to the general public. The Fund was a finalist of both the 2016 Choice Super of the Year and 2016 MySuper of the Year awards. HOSTPLUS Executive is the premium superannuation offer within HOSTPLUS.

HOSTPLUS offers a range of 10 Pre-Mixed and Sector investment options and 10 Single Manager options, as well as a ChoicePlus Investment Option providing access to Direct Shares listed on the S&P/ASX 300, a range of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and Term Deposits. Members can also choose to invest in HOSTPLUS Life, a life-stage investment comprising pre-mixed options selected for specific age brackets. The fund has a track record of strong investment returns and the Balanced option has outperformed the SuperRatings Index over both the short and long term.

Fees are competitive and lower than the industry average across all account balances assessed. Members are able to switch investment options and make withdrawals at no cost.

HOSTPLUS Executive provides a full suite of insurance cover, with members receiving automatic unitised Death and TPD insurance cover upon joining the fund. HOSTPLUS Executive offers different types of Death and TPD cover, as well as IP cover to choose from, and also gives employers the option to make special insurance arrangements for their employees.

HOSTPLUS offers added benefits to members including discounted banking, health insurance, travel and accommodation.
