Bank of Melbourne is an Australian bank, based in Victoria. With headquarters in Melbourne, the bank has 106 branches spread across the state.
Although Bank of Melbourne was established in 1989 as an independent organisation, it has been part of the Westpac Group since 1997.
Bank of Melbourne, or BoM as it is also known, offers a wide range of home loans, both through its branch network and through mortgage brokers.
The mortgage market changes constantly. Every week, new products get launched and existing products get tweaked. Yet many ratings and awards systems rank products annually or biannually.
We update our product data as soon as possible when lenders make changes, so if a bank hikes its interest rates or changes its product, the system will quickly re-evaluate it.
Nobody wants to read a weather forecast that is six months old, and the same is true for home loan comparisons.
Australia no longer has no-deposit home loans – or 100 per cent home loans as they’re also known – because they’re regarded as too risky.
However, some lenders allow some borrowers to take out mortgages with a 5 per cent deposit.
Another option is to source a deposit from elsewhere – either by using a parental guarantee or by drawing out equity from another property.
Your bank statements and/or your internet banking should show these details. If you are not sure, call your bank or estimate.
Real Time RatingsTM is the only online system that ranks the home loan market based on your personal borrowing preferences. Until now, home loans have been rated based on outdated data. Our system is unique because it reacts to changes as soon as we update our database.
Home loans spanning 40 years are offered by select lenders, though the loan period is much longer than a standard 30-year home loan. You're more likely to find a maximum of 35 years, such as is the case with Teacher’s Mutual Bank.
Even though these lengthier loans 35 to 40 year loans do exist on the market, they are not overwhelmingly popular, as the extra interest you pay compared to a 30-year loan can be over $100,000 or more.
Additional payments to your home loan above the minimum monthly instalments, which can help to reduce the loan’s term and remaining payable interest.
Your repayments should appear on your bank statements or your internet banking. If you make weekly or fortnightly repayments, make sure you convert them to monthly calculations.
A bad credit home loan is a mortgage for people with a low credit score. Lenders regard bad credit borrowers as riskier than ‘vanilla’ borrowers, so they tend to charge higher interest rates for bad credit home loans.
If you want a bad credit home loan, you’re more likely to get approved by a small non-bank lender than by a big four bank or another mainstream lender.
This competition is currently for home loans only.
