Summary

Australian Ethical was established in 1986 to promote ethical investments that adhere to the Australian Ethical Charter, with the Account Based Pension opening in 1998. Australian Ethical Super was the winner of the 2020 Infinity Award in recognition of its commitment to social, ethical and environmental principals.Members have access to 6 Diversified and Single Sector investment options across a range of asset classes that align with the Australian Ethical Charter. The Balanced option underperformed the relevant SuperRatings Index over the 10 years to 30 June 2019; however, outperformed over the shorter term. We note it has a lower allocation to growth assets than a typical Balanced (60-76) strategy.Fees for this product are lower than the industry average across all assessed account balances, with administration fee discounts available to members with account balances over $250,000. No switching fees are applicable, although buy-sell spreads may be charged when changing investment options. A reasonable level of pension flexibility is provided to members, with multiple payment frequencies available ranging from monthly to annually. Members can nominate a payment drawdown order from investment options or have payments made pro-rata across investment allocations. Beneficiary options are comprehensive, including binding and preferred beneficiary nominations, as well as reversionary pensions. Australian Ethical Super provides members with the newsletter, Good Money, which covers ethical investment issues, details of specific investments and performance results. The funds member online account further allows members to view and update their account details and perform transactions.
