Established in 1987 for Tasmanian corporate employees, Tasplan Super has been a public offer industry fund since 2007. With the aim to create a single Tasmanian superannuation fund, Tasplan merged with Quadrant Super in November 2015 and the RBF Accumulation Scheme in April 2017 and will be merging with MTAA Super on 1 April 2021. Tasplan Managed Pension was launched in July 2019 and a minimum initial investment of $20,000 is required to commence membership. Members' income and investment options are determined based on their age and account balances upon opening accounts.Tasplan Managed Pension offers an investment strategy that combines Cash and Long-term options with quarterly rebalancing. The Long-term option outperformed the SuperRatings Index over the year to 30 June 2020.Fees are lower than the industry average across all assessed account balances, with the percentage-based administration fee capped at $1,200 pa. The fund does not charge a buy-sell spread or a switching fee. A limited level of pension flexibility is provided, with members only having the ability to receive payments fortnightly. The regular pension payments are made from Cash, which is designed to provide members with investment stability to cover pension fees and costs, as well as their income needs for the first two years. Beneficiary options are comprehensive, including both binding and non-binding nominations, as well as reversionary pensions.Additional benefits available include access to advice services, information sessions, high quality educational material, interactive tools and calculators, as well as the ability to view account details and perform transactions via Tasplan Online.
