Annualised figures are the average per year returns of the rated option based on the cumulative returns for the past 5 years to 30/06/2015, past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance. Performance and fee data is based on the option which is rated by SuperRatings and stated on each product's landing page.

Benchmark investment information - how performance is measured

To ensure comparability for consumers, the RateCity superannuation comparison is based on the asset allocation of each of the MySuper/Pension products, irrespective of the name of the investment option. This methodology allows consumers to compare products on a like for like basis and removes any ambiguities associated with the name of the investment option. For example, an investment option may be classified as growth, however its asset allocation may in fact mean it should be classified as high growth. By using the asset allocation as the dominant identifier, we believe this provides the most robust framework for consumers to compare funds and recognise that this is a consistent approach to that of SuperRatings methodology.

What the researchers say

ANZ OneAnswer Personal Super is a flexible and tax effective retail superannuation product housed on the ANZ OneAnswer platform. Administered by OnePath and designed for individuals seeking flexibility, the product is now closed to new members.

The investment menu caters to all types of investors with a comprehensive choice of Single Sector and Diversified Index funds, with access to the OptiMix range of Multi-Manager funds. Rounding out the package is a selection of Term Deposits ranging from 3 month to years periods.

In 2014, new underlying investment managers were assigned to manage the fund's Multi and Asset Specific strategies as part of the Multi Manager investment approach. Diversified options offered provide a blend of active and passive investment styles.

Returns for the OnePath Managed Growth (NCF) option are positioned below the SuperRatings Index over the long term and show a similar trend in 2015.

The fees are costly for all account balances assessed; however, the deferred ongoing entry fee reduces after 4 years. The fixed dollar fee of $56.47 pa is waived once the member's account balance reaches $10,000 and further fee rebates apply on balances over $100,000.

Members have access to reasonably priced Death & Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover. Whilst Income Protection (IP) is not directly available through this product, members can apply for IP through OnePath's OneCare Super insurance.
