How to claim Qantas frequent flyer points on Emirates

Qantas and Emirates combined network is one of the most extensive across the world. The good news for frequent flyers is that Qantas frequent flyer points may be earned from Emirates flights, depending on the destination and the fare.

Claiming Qantas frequent flyer points on Emirates flights

If you are on an Emirates plane, you may still earn Qantas frequent flyer points, as long as the codeshare flight has a “QF” flight number.

For example, if you are travelling from Sydney to London, the trip will typically have a layover in Dubai. One or both portions of this trip can require boarding an Emirates plane, even if your tickets were purchased via the Qantas website.

Just ensure you choose the Qantas flight with a‘QF’ flight number when booking, even if the flight is through Emirates. It should appear as something like “Flight QF8003 is operated by Emirates” when you are searching for ticket options online.

When you travel through Qantas via Emirates, your frequent flyer account should accrue the applicable points for that trip. Use the Qantas Points Calculator to determine how many Qantas or Emirates points you may earn travelling from one destination to another today.

It’s worth noting that if you purchase your Emirates flights with cash, you cannot use Qantas Points to upgrade these seats.

What may be possible is being able to bid for an upgrade if your Emirates flight is a codeshare flight with a Qantas, and comes with the aforementioned QF flight number.

Please note that the bid for an upgrade is ONLY possible if the Emirates flight appears in your Qantas dashboard. As a result of the number of conditions involved, it may not be advisable to bank on upgrading with Qantas points.

Bidding for a flight upgrade with Qantas

  1. Eligibility - Check to see if your travel details are eligible for a Bid Now Upgrade.
  2. Make an offer - Enter the amount you would be comfortable paying for the upgrade as a bid using Qantas points, cash, or both. Note that a minimum offer is required.
  3. Wait for confirmation - You should be notified within 24 hours of your scheduled flight if you are successful in the bid for your upgrade.

If you are successful, the points and/or cash will be automatically deducted from your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership account and/or your nominated debit or credit card.
