Annualised figures are the average per year returns of the rated option based on the cumulative returns for the past 5 years to 30/06/2015, past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance. Performance and fee data is based on the option which is rated by SuperRatings and stated on each product's landing page.

Benchmark investment information - how performance is measured

To ensure comparability for consumers, the RateCity superannuation comparison is based on the asset allocation of each of the MySuper/Pension products, irrespective of the name of the investment option. This methodology allows consumers to compare products on a like for like basis and removes any ambiguities associated with the name of the investment option. For example, an investment option may be classified as growth, however its asset allocation may in fact mean it should be classified as high growth. By using the asset allocation as the dominant identifier, we believe this provides the most robust framework for consumers to compare funds and recognise that this is a consistent approach to that of SuperRatings methodology.

What the researchers say

ANZ OneAnswer Pension is a flexible retail retirement account housed on the ANZ OneAnswer Platform. Administered by OnePath, the product is now closed to new members though continues to provide income streams for retirees and members in the transitional retirement phase.

With a minimum initial investment of $20,000, members can access a comprehensive investment menu with Single Sector and Diversified funds. Rounding out the package is a solid selection of Term Deposits offering both active and passive management with maturities varying from 3 months to 5 years. Returns for the OnePath Managed Growth (NCF) option are positioned below the SuperRatings Index in 2015 and over the medium and long term.

Fees are higher than the industry average across all account balances assessed. However, the deferred ongoing entry fee reduces after 4 years. The fixed dollar fee of $48 pa is waived once the members' account balance reaches $10,000, while further fee rebates apply on balances over $100,000.

The product offers excellent flexibility with members having at-call access to their pension funds via the ANZ Prime Cash Management Account; furthermore, members can choose from 4 payment frequencies and nominate a specific investment draw down order for payments.
