Annualised figures are the average per year returns of the rated option based on the cumulative returns for the past 5 years to 30/06/2015, past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance. Performance and fee data is based on the option which is rated by SuperRatings and stated on each product's landing page.
Benchmark investment information - how performance is measured
To ensure comparability for consumers, the RateCity superannuation comparison is based on the asset allocation of each of the MySuper/Pension products, irrespective of the name of the investment option. This methodology allows consumers to compare products on a like for like basis and removes any ambiguities associated with the name of the investment option. For example, an investment option may be classified as growth, however its asset allocation may in fact mean it should be classified as high growth. By using the asset allocation as the dominant identifier, we believe this provides the most robust framework for consumers to compare funds and recognise that this is a consistent approach to that of SuperRatings methodology.

What the researchers say
A national multi-employer superannuation fund, Equip Super has been operating since 1931. The origins of the fund are in the infrastructure sectors of Victoria, specifically in the Electricity, Gas and Water Industries. However, the fund is now open to the general public.
A Platinum performer, Equip was approved for MySuper in August 2013 with employer SG contributions paid into the new Equip MySuper investment option by default. While limited performance history is available, the MySuper option outperformed the SuperRatings Index in 2015.
Fees are competitive across all assessed account balances, while offering the flexibility of free unlimited switches. To assist members with higher account balances, the administration fee is not applied to members for any account balance amount over $450,000.
The fund's insurance offering includes high Automatic Acceptance Limits and maximum cover levels, with salary linked cover and a competitively priced cost structure. The absence of occupational factors provides blue collar workers with improved value of cover compared to their white collar counterparts. Income Protection (IP) provides 85% salary coverage over 2 years with a choice of 30, 60 and 90 day waiting periods.
Members also have access to a range of in-house financial planning services on a fee-for-service basis.
