ReAmped Energy is an independent electricity provider serving residential and small business customers in the Australian Capital Territory, South East Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. ReAmped positions itself as different from the large power companies, with straightforward pricing, no expiring discounts, and quick responses to your queries.
ReAmped Energy takes pride in being Australia’s first completely online energy retailer. The retailer has invested in technology that helps it to provide better customer service. One way you can get faster responses is by using the live online chat on the ReAmped website. You may find this more convenient than the call centres used by some of the other electricity providers, where the wait time can be pretty long. The live chat on the ReAmped Energy Australia site is available from 7 am to 10 pm AEST, Monday to Sunday. You can also request a call back on their website, but there is no listed ReAmped Energy phone number for you to call.
ReAmped Energy plans
Customers in ACT, NSW, SA and QLD can choose between the following four plans offered by ReAmped Energy. You need to enter your address to see the ReAmped Energy rates, plans and features.
ReAmped Classic
This plan has a fixed daily supply charge and a usage charge per kWh of electricity you consume. The usage charge remains the same, no matter what time of the day or day of the week you consume power, so it’s called an ‘anytime’ charge. There is no lock-in contract, and you don't need to pay exit fees if you decide to cancel.
All billing and communication is done online, and you can choose to pay your bill every fortnight, month or quarter. You need to set up a direct debit to pay your bill.
You have an option to take 25, 50, 75 or 100 per cent of energy in the form of GreenPower. This is renewable energy from sources that are accredited by the Australian Government. You have to pay an additional amount for GreenPower.
ReAmped Handshake
If you choose to sign on for a year, this plan offers slightly better rates. While this is a common feature offered by most energy retailers, the difference in the case of ReAmped is that you are not contractually locked in. If you decide to exit, you don't pay any fees.
You need to set up a direct debit to pay your bill, and you can choose to pay your bill every week, fortnight or month. ReAmped Energy will communicate with you and send your bills online.
If you have solar panels, this plan offers the government feed-in tariff, as well as the ReAmped Energy feed-in tariff for surplus power that you export to the grid.
ReAmped Advance
With this plan, you pay every fortnight and in advance. If you have a smart meter, you receive the invoice every fortnight or every quarter. Although your usage charge is fixed, you can also get a slightly lower rate for controlled loads, that’s equipment such as water heaters that you can run at times when the load on the grid is lower. You have an option to take 25, 50, 75 or 100 per cent of your energy in the form of GreenPower, and pay an additional charge for this.
How does ReAmped estimate how much you need to pay in advance? At the time you sign up for this plan, they ask you a set of questions. From your responses, your initial advance amount is calculated based on the average usage of a similar-sized household in your location. ReAmped Energy uses the Australian Energy Regulator bill benchmark data for this calculation. This is the amount you need to pay in advance. Once your invoicing starts, ReAmped Energy may update the advance amount you need to pay based on your actual average usage. You will be told at the time of your invoice if the advance you need to pay has changed.
If you are already a ReAmped Energy customer, your initial advance amount will be calculated based on your historical usage. If your account has sufficient credit, you will not need to pay this advance.
ReAmped Solar
This plan offers the best ReAmped Energy feed-in tariff, so if you have solar panels you may want to explore it. You pay a fixed supply charge and an anytime usage charge, and a slightly lower rate for controlled loads. If you have heavy loads that you can run at times when the load on the grid is lower, you can get the benefit of the controlled load price. The ReAmped Energy feed-in tariff is in two slabs. You get a higher tariff for the first 5 kWh that you export each day, then a lower tariff for the rest.
For customers in Victoria, ReAmped Energy offers two of the four plans listed above - ReAmped Classic and ReAmped Handshake.
ReAmped Energy Prices
All ReAmped plans are based on the network tariff currently available at your location. The network tariff is determined by the distributor and varies based on your property and meter type. Unlike most other energy retailers, you will not see plans with differential pricing depending on your time of use. However, ReAmped Energy says that it may be able to change you to a time-of-use tariff after you become a customer, depending on the distributor serving your location.
When you enter your address on the ReAmped Energy website, you can see the plans and prices available. If you would like to compare prices and check whether you will be saving anything, you can send a copy of your current bill to ReAmped Energy.
No conditional discounts
You may have seen plans from other energy retailers that offer a discount when you join or for paying your bills on time. ReAmped Energy states clearly that they don’t offer any conditional discounts, as these make billing confusing and may not mean any real savings for you.
Moving house
If you sign up as a ReAmped Energy customer and you plan to move house, let the retailer know your new address and the date you plan to move in. You will have to pay an additional cost for a move-in connection.
If you are moving into a property in ACT or VIC, ReAmped Energy assures you that your connection can be arranged on the same day if you complete your signup by 8 pm local time.
If you are moving into a property in QLD, you need to sign up by 12 pm to get your connection on the same day.
If you are moving into a property in NSW, your connection can be arranged on the next business day if you complete your signup by 2:00 pm on the prior day.
If you are moving into a property in SA, it can be arranged on the same day if you complete your signup by 2:00 pm local time.
ReAmped Energy offers low prices and quick service. You can look for ReAmped Energy reviews online and compare the company to other energy providers to see if ReAmped offers the right deal for you.
