Scams and Fraud Warning

Scams and other fraudulent activities are designed to deceive you, and are a major cause of financial loss in Australia and the world. RateCity has been made aware of a number of ways fraudsters and criminals are using Canstar Group (including RateCity) to attempt to trick consumers into handing over their financial details and personal information in recent months.

This can include scam emails, fake websites and fraudulent calls pretending to be from RateCity, or the Canstar Group, impersonating staff members.

We want to alert you to this and to other types of fraudulent activity so that you know what to look out for and the steps you can take to protect yourself online.

Impersonation Websites

We are aware there are scam websites operating that are falsely promoting investment or loan options. These websites may appear similar to the official RateCity website but contain false products and forms intending to compromise your personal information.

The official RateCity website iswww.ratecity.com.au, and the RateCity social media pages are https://www.facebook.com/RateCity and instagram.com.au/ratecity.com.au.

Any other websites or social media pages claiming to be RateCity are impersonation scams and we urge you not to click on any links, fill out any forms on the site or engage with the site by sharing any personal information.

Impersonation Emails

Another way we are aware scammers are behaving is by sending emails impersonating RateCity and promoting false investment options. These offerings may sometimes include fake RateCity-branded emails and are not legitimate.

These are scam email addresses and we urge you not to click on any links, open attachments or respond to requests from the source of these emails.

You will only receive newsletters from our official email addresses:

  • @ratecity.com.au
  • or @canstar.com.au

Impersonation Phone Calls

None of RateCity, Canstar or Canstar Blue undertake cold calls. If you’ve been called by someone claiming to be from RateCity, Canstar or Canstar Blue offering to sell you a product or service, these calls are fraudulent. Be sure not to give out bank details or personal information and do not click on any links the caller may send you by email or SMS.

What should you do if you have been a victim of one of these scams?

If you have received a suspicious telephone call, message or email of this type, please contact us by email at [email protected] immediately.
