Haval specialises in SUVs and other family cars. As part of the Great Wall Motors group (known in Australia for its utes and work vehicles), Haval is one of the leading sellers in its native China. Haval has been operating in Australia since 2016, offering competition for other local and international SUV and 4WD manufacturers.

Besides Haval, other car brands operating under the Great Wall group include:

  • ORA, which specialises in electric cars;
  • WEY, specialising luxury SUVs and crossovers, and;
  • TANK, which specialises in off-road vehicles.
Where are Haval cars made?

There are eight Haval manufacturing bases throughout China. Haval also operates KD factories in Ecuador, Malaysia, Tunisia, Bulgaria and Russia.

What are Haval’s vehicle models?

Haval’s SUVs are available in a variety of different sizes and styles, to better suit the needs of different drivers and families.

Some of the new and used Haval SUV models you may be able to find in Australia include:

  • Haval H2 small SUV
  • Haval H6 medium SUV
  • Haval H6 GT coupe SUV
  • Haval H8 medium SUV
  • Haval H9 large SUV
  • Haval Jolion small SUV

There are also variants of these models to consider, such as the Lux, Ultra, S and Hybrid versions of the H6 and Jolion series, for drivers looking for more luxury features or a more sustainable vehicle.

Other Haval SUV models (such as the Haval Big Dog) are available overseas, but are yet to hit the Australian marketplace at the time of writing.

How much do Haval vehicles cost?

The price of a Haval SUV in Australia will vary depending on whether you're buying new or used, as well as what extras may be included and who you’re buying from.

At the time of writing Haval prices range from $10,890 for a Haval H8 to $50,990 for a Haval H9, according to carsguide.com.au.

Keep in mind that as well as paying the sale price to buy a Haval SUV, you’ll also need to budget for the cost of registration in your state or territory, plus insurance, fuel and servicing. Make sure you’re confident you can afford the costs before taking the plunge.

How can you finance a Haval SUV?

While many Haval dealerships may offer car finance as an option to help you buy an SUV, there may be other options available to consider. Car loans are available from most banks, as well as a variety of specialist lenders.

It’s important to compare car loans before making an application, as not every car loan will suit every borrower or every vehicle type. For example, you may be able to use a secured car loan to buy a new Haval SUV, as the value of the car could be used to help guarantee the loan, giving you a lower interest rate.

But when buying a used Haval SUV, the car may be over the maximum age limit for a new car loan, so you may have to opt for an unsecured car loan instead. While this means you won’t risk losing your car if you don’t keep up with your repayments, you may also be charged a higher interest rate for your used car loan.

Buying a Haval for work?

If you plan on using your Haval for work, there may be additional options to consider, such as a novated lease or chattel mortgage, organised through your employer and a financier.

Your credit score may also play an important part when you apply for a car loan. If you have a history of borrowing and repaying money on time, you may have a good credit score, which may help your car loan application be approved, possibly with a relatively low interest rate. But if you have a bad credit history thanks to missed payments or other credit problems in the past, it may be harder to get a car loan approved, or you may need to agree to pay a higher interest rate. Borrowers with poor credit could consider looking into options to improve their credit score before applying for a car loan to buy a Haval SUV.

Once you’ve compared car loan options, get in touch with the lender online, over the phone or in person to organise a quote. Once you’ve been preapproved for a car loan, you can walk into a Haval showroom with extra confidence about your car buying budget.
