Bendigo Bank Green Loan

Features

The Bendigo Bank Green Home Loan rewards you for renovating or building an energy- or water-efficient home.

To be eligible for the rate reduction, your building or renovation must either comply with minimum environmental standards or you must be installing a minimum of two sustainable features like solar hot water or double glazing.

Aside from the discounted interest rate, this loan gives the choice between weekly, fortnightly or monthly loan repayments and comes with the option of a saving interest by using the 100 percent offset account.

If you’re looking for flexibility, you can find it in the redraw facility from which you can redraw any of the unlimited additional repayments you’ve made.

When the Green Loan is packaged with other Bendigo Bank accounts, you’ll get access to further discounts on credit cards and other financial products like insurance.

While this is a variable home loan product, your loan can be split with other Bendigo Bank loans, giving you the option of fixing part of the loan for a set period of time.

This loan also has the option of paying interest-only.

For borrowers with a smaller deposit, the Bendigo Bank Generation Green Home Loan will lend you up to 95 percent of the purchase price, however loans over 80 percent will need to pay lenders mortgage insurance.

Review - What RateCity says

There aren’t many loans on the market that incentivise and reward sustainable borrowers, so if you are environmentally conscious or are contemplating buying a sustainably built home then this loan has some nice features.

The standard variable rate is on the high side, however the Green Home Loan does offer discounts on the standard variable rate. In terms of maintenance, this loan is a fairly fuss-free option and the lack of ongoing monthly and annual fees is worth noting.

There is potential for further rate reductions when this loan is packaged with other accounts like credit cards and transaction accounts, which may also be worth consideration.
