What’s new in savings accounts in July 2024?

Even though the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) kept the national cash rate on hold at its June 2024 meeting, it’s possible that a rate hike could arrive before the end of the year, depending on inflation and other economic factors. If this was to occur, the variable interest rates on many savings accounts could also rise, allowing savers to grow their wealth that little bit more.

Keep in mind that economists from some of Australia’s big banks are still forecasting that the RBA’s next move will be a cut, even if it may arrive a little later than originally forecast – this could potentially lead to Australian savers earning less interest in the future.

If you find yourself with extra cash in your pocket thanks to the tax cuts and energy rebates that arrived with the new financial year, you could consider putting part of it into your savings.
