Features

The Bank Australia Platinum Rewards Visa is a rewards card with a moderately high interest rate offering a moderate number of interest-free days.

As a cardholder, you automatically become a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program (if you’re not one already). And your purchases and payments could earn you Qantas Points.

One of the benefits of this credit card is complimentary overseas travel insurance for you and an accompanying person. This can be your spouse, de facto, or dependents under the age of 21.

Your Bank Australia Platinum Rewards Visa qualifies you for Visa Entertainment membership, providing you access to exclusive ticket pre‑sales, offers and competitions.

Additional cardholders can be included on the primary account for an annual fee (per card).

Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay are available for compatible devices, and transactions are protected by Visa Checkout.

Pros
  • Complimentary travel insurance
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer membership
  • Moderately high annual fee
Cons
  • Capped points
  • Additional cardholder fee
  • Cash advance fee charged

Who is it good for?

The Bank Australia Platinum Rewards Visa may be of benefit if you’re a Qantas Frequent Flyer member.

If you’re not already a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, the card gives you automatic membership at no extra cost.

Qantas points earned on eligible transactions can be redeemed via the Qantas Frequent Flyer program.

There is a cap on the number of Qantas Points you could earn during a monthly statement cycle, although bonus Qantas Points do not count towards the points cap.

The features of this credit card are mostly of a travel-related nature and so may not be suitable if you don’t travel much.

If you do travel frequently, only overseas travel is complimentary via this card. You could purchase domestic travel insurance using Qantas Points through Qantas Assure.

Purchasing travel insurance using Qantas Points gives you the option to earn even more points.

What RateCity says

The Bank Australia Platinum Rewards Visa is mainly targeted at Qantas Frequent Flyer members. Only Qantas Points can be earned on eligible transactions with this Visa card.

The card has a moderately high interest rate and annual fee. For the price tag, there are fewer benefits offered than other credit cards associated with the Qantas Frequent Flyer program.

Complimentary travel insurance is limited to overseas travel only, and Qantas Points are capped per monthly statement.

If this Visa card is your only method of earning Qantas Points, you may not be able to access a broad range of the program’s benefits.

This credit card offers flexibility regarding how it can be used. It offers Apple Pay, Android Pay and Samsung Pay for compatible devices.

The Bank Australia Platinum Rewards Visa is further safeguarded by Visa Checkout.

Applying/eligibility

To be eligible for the Bank Australia Platinum Rewards Visa you must be at least 18 years of age and be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident of Australia. You must have a good credit rating, and provide evidence of your pre-tax income, employment, assets and liabilities. You can apply online or over the phone and will need identification in the form of a driver’s licence, Medicare Card or passport.
