Features

The Bank of Melbourne Amplify Signature (Amplify Qantas) credit card lets you turn your everyday purchases into Qantas frequent flyer points. This credit card has a moderately high interest rate and a high annual fee. It also has a moderately low late payment fee and offers a moderate amount of interest-free days and a minimum credit limit of $15,000.

The Bank of Melbourne Amplify Signature (Amplify Qantas) credit card allows an additional card holder (16 years or over) at no added cost.

With complimentary overseas travel insurance, two free complimentary Qantas Lounge passes and no cap on the number of points you can earn, this card suits frequent spenders looking for frequent flyer rewards. The high fees don’t offer much value to those looking for a low-cost credit card, and the high interest rate makes this card an expensive option for cardholders who don’t pay their monthly balance in full.

Pros
  • Frequent flyer points
  • Complimentary insurance
  • Free additional cardholder
Cons
  • Annual fee charged
  • Late payment fee charged
  • High interest rate

Who is it good for?

The Bank of Melbourne Amplify Signature (Amplify Qantas) is best suited to frequent flyers who spend significant amounts on their credit card and always pay their bill in full. Cardholders will get the most out the card if they’re looking to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points in addition to perks like overseas travel insurance. Also, if they’re looking for extended warranty insurance, price protection guarantee, purchase security insurance, double point incentives and free airport lounge passes, this may be a good option.

But this card offers no particular advantage to those who want to cut costs and consolidate debt.

For every eligible $1 spent, you’ll receive 0.75 points which will be credited directly to your Qantas Frequent Flyer Membership Account. There’s no cap on the number of reward points you can earn, and on your birthday, you’ll also earn 10 per cent of the points accrued in the last 12 months as a bonus.

What RateCity says

The Bank of Melbourne Amplify Signature (Amplify Qantas) card is best suited to existing Bank of Melbourne customers looking to keep all their banking products under one roof.

For those on a budget, the high annual fee, high interest rate and additional fees such as card replacement fee, cash advance fee, foreign transaction fee, late payment fee and card replacement fee make this card less appealing. It’s also not a great option for cardholders looking to reduce their debt by taking advantage of a balance transfer.

To get the most out of this card, you’d need to spend regularly and pay the card balance in full each month to avoid additional interest charges. You’d also need to have a Qantas Frequent Flyer membership before applying for the credit card.

High fees aside, the Bank of Melbourne Amplify Signature (Amplify Qantas) does have some decent perks and a wide range of complimentary services.
