The BankSA Amplify Platinum credit card allows cardholders to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points for all eligible transactions, made both in Australia and overseas.

As well as the obvious rewards points selling point, this credit card also provides complimentary travel insurance for up to three trips per year (including the cardholder’s spouse and/or children) and complimentary extended warranty insurance for purchases made using the card.

An additional cardholder can also be added at no extra cost, and BankSA are currently offering a generous bonus points offer for new cardholders, provided that they meet a minimum spend requirement in the first three months.

For all of these perks, the BankSA Amplify Platinum credit card has a moderately high interest rate, and even higher on cash advances. Cardholders can also expect to pay a moderate annual fee each year.

Who is it good for?

The point of a rewards credit card is for the cardholder to earn more points in their preferred rewards program. This means the BankSA Amplify Platinum credit card might be suitable for current Qantas Frequent Flyer members who are already using a credit card for their everyday transactions. The ability to link this card to a BankSA bank account could make it all the more appealing to current BankSA customers.

The free additional cardholder and extended warranty insurance could also make this credit card appealing to couples.

Frequent flyers can also take advantage of the complimentary travel insurance, but should keep in mind the foreign transaction fee if thinking about using this card overseas. With an additional fee to replace a lost or stolen card (even in emergencies, and even more when overseas), forgetful or accident-prone customers should consider this potential fee before choosing this credit card.

What RateCity says

The BankSA Amplify Platinum credit card has a number of perks and benefits, but its main feature is the ability for cardholders to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points. That said, it does not provide the most generous points-earning scheme, so customers should shop around if earning the maximum amount of points is important to them.

This credit card’s interest rate and annual fee fall at the standard moderate-to-high end of the scale, as is typical for rewards credit cards, so it’s always advisable for consumers to work out for themselves whether the fees are worth it.

Current BankSA customers could certainly find some value and convenience with this credit card, but in terms of a rewards card, there are other cards available with comparable rates and fees, and more generous rewards points schemes.
