FAQs

How to increase your Qantas Premier credit card limit

When your income or spending habits change, you might wish to increase your credit card limit. The Qantas Premier credit card allows you to do this over the phone. You can contact Qantas Premier Card Support by calling on 1300 992 700. Unlike some other credit providers, Qantas doesn’t give you the option to increase your limit online.

Qantas will only accept your application if you have a good history of repayment and have not increased your credit or bought another credit product from Qantas in the past six months.

Before approving your Qantas Premier credit card limit increase, Qantas will perform a credit assessment on your current financial circumstances and ask why you would like to increase your credit limit.

To ensure that there are no bumps in your application process, you must provide accurate and recent information about your financial situation. You should also account for any future changes you’re anticipating which could hinder your ability to repay the loan.

Once the assessment is complete, Qantas will either approve or deny your application. If they approve it, you will need to sign a credit limit increase agreement - and you can request a written copy of the credit assessment. However, if your application is rejected, Qantas can opt not to provide a copy of the assessment.

Can I use Qantas points on Emirates flights?

Yes, you may be able to use Qantas points on Emirates flights. You can check the complete list of prices at the Qantas Points Classic Flight Rewards tables.

You can book your seats after a quick search on the Qantas website. Log in and look for an award seat on the route you want to take. All available seats on Emirates will appear in the search results.

Emirates releases seats around 330-340 days out. The availability of award seats with Emirates is usually good, but like with other premium inventory, seats are limited, so try to book as soon as possible.

How to claim Qantas frequent flyer points on Emirates?

Qantas frequent flyer points earned on Emirates flights depend on the destination and the fare. Qantas offers “QF” flight numbers on some Emirates flights, which can then be used to earn and maximise your points. You can also use points to purchase tickets for these flights or an upgrade.

These points can be used for classic flight rewards and points-plus-pay flights. Here is how you can use your points:

  1. Login to Qantas.com using your frequent flyer number.
  2. Go to the “all bookings” tab and select “upgrade” for the chosen booking.
  3. For international travel, opt to be eligible for an upgrade reward.
  4. You’ll be registered for an upgrade if a seat becomes available.
  5. If an upgrade is available when you make the request, the points are immediately deducted from your account.

You can receive benefits like lounge access and priority check-in if you have silver, gold, platinum, or another frequent flyer status with Emirates Skywards or Qantas Frequent Flyer

What is a credit card?

A credit card is a payment method which lets you pay for goods and services without using your own money. It’s essentially a short-term loan which lets you borrow the bank’s money to pay for things which you can pay back – potentially with interest – at a later date. Credit cards can also be used to withdraw money from an ATM, which is known as a cash advance. Because you’re borrowing money from a bank, credit cards charge you interest on the money you use (unless you repay the entire debt during the interest-free period). When you apply for a credit card, the bank gives you a credit limit which sets the maximum amount you can borrow using your card. Credit cards are one of the most popular methods of payments and can be a convenient way of paying for goods and services in store, online and all around the globe.

How do credit cards work?

Think of credit cards as a short-term loan where you use the bank’s money to buy something up front and then pay for it later. Unlike a debit card which uses your own money to pay, a credit card essentially borrows the bank’s money to fund the purchase. When you apply for a credit card, the bank assesses your income and assigns you a credit limit based on what you can afford to pay back. At the end of each billing cycle, which is usually monthly, the bank will send you a statement showing the minimum amount you have to pay back, including any interest payable on the balance.

Can I transfer money from my American Express credit card to my bank account?

If you’re an American Express credit card customer, you may not be able to transfer money from your credit card to your bank account. However, you may be eligible for cash advances, which involves withdrawing money through an ATM.

To qualify for a cash advance, you’ll likely have to enrol for American Express Membership Rewards. Consider checking your online credit card account to see if you can withdraw a cash advance and, if so, the fees and charges you’ll incur for this transaction.

You should remember that cash advances are different from balance transfers, which were available with some American Express credit cards earlier. Balance transfers allow customers to consolidate debt from high-interest credit cards to a credit card offering a lower interest rate. If you only recently applied for an American Express credit card, balance transfers may not be available irrespective of the card you own.

What is the minimum income required for an American Express credit card?

The minimum income requirement for an American Express credit card will depend on the card of your choice. You must satisfy American Express’s minimum income criteria for the selected card to receive card approval.

For instance, you should be earning a minimum of $100,000 annually if you wish to own an American Express Platinum Card. An Explorer Card eligibility criteria may be easier to meet with a lower minimum income requirement of $65,000 annually. You might also consider the David Jones Platinum American Express Card if your personal income is more than $65,000 per year and you’re interested in earning points on your daily shopping at your local DJs store.

Commonwealth Bank credit cards are extremely popular in Australia for everyday purchases and big ticket items alikers. In the CommBank app, tap on the ‘Cards’ icon and choose your credit card. Then, click on ‘Credit Limit’ and select the ‘Increasing your limit’ option. If you don’t have the CommBank app, you can also increase your Commonwealth Bank credit card limit through NetBank. How long does a credit card fraud investigation take?

If you’re wondering how long a credit card fraud investigation takes, you should realise that each institution will have its own process for investigating fraud. The basic process involves raising a dispute about the transaction or transactions that you think were due to credit card fraud with your bank. If you succeed, any money you’ve lost due to this fraud will likely be credited to your account within three business days after the investigation is concluded. Some card disputes are known to take up to 45 days.
